to our newest fantastic 4/5.... Sophie S.
Math
Today we explored subtracting decimals using base ten blocks, a number line and pencil and paper.
Grade 4 make sure you complete each question using a number line then check using pencil and paper. It is important that you understand the meaning of decimals. The pencil and paper strategy is just like subtracting two-digit numbers (with a decimal in the middle). Knowing how to add up on a number line to find the answer to a subtraction questions is more important.
Make sure you complete any corrections with adding decimals. Please stay in at lunch recess tomorrow if you're having difficulty.
Grade 5, some of the questions were tricky using a number line. Use pencil and paper, but make sure you understand what the problem is asking.

Literacy
Today we talked about inferring traits of characters. Do you remember the difference between character traits and emotions? Tomorrow put some of your inferred traits of Brett and into an APE styled open response answer. With any inference, you must have proof from the text to support your inference.

We are ready to present our tableaux to a few of the other classes. Friday is the best day. Please wear all navy uniform or bring all black. If you have neither, wear the darkest colour you have.

You will be working with your group for two weeks to develop a routine. Remember to include different way to travel, jump and balance on the maps and equipment.
Social Studies
We continued our discussion of the natural resources in the Arctic. We ran out of time at the end of the day (sorry to bus students... I changed the clock). Please re-read pages 42-43 in Many Gifts and think about the Explore and Apply questions.
Reminders:
- Valentine's Day tomorrow. You may pass out cards if you wish. There is a class list below.
