Math
We continued to explore place value. Modeling numbers different ways and regrouping to a lower place and regrouping to a higher place.

Grade 4: (Draw a place value chart to help)

A number is represented by 20 hundred blocks and some tens blocks. What could the number be?

An ice cream store has a sign that reads 3679 ice cream cones sold. Model this number by drawing base ten blocks.

Each week the ice cream store sells 100 more ice cream cones for the next 5 weeks. What should the sign read at the end of 5 weeks?

Model these numbers using only hundreds blocks and then only tens blocks:
 6000, 4000, 7000

Model 9233 using 35 blocks. Is there more than one answer?

Grade 5:(Draw a place value chart to help)

How many $100 bills are in 50 thousand dollars?
How many $10 bills are in 50 thousand dollars
How many $5 bills are in 50 thousand dollars? How did you find your answer?

Learning Skills
Today we began our discussion on having a GROWTH MINDSET. What is the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset? Use the video below from class to help.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC82Il2cjqA
What were the messages that we discussed? That's a growth mindset!

We also read the book The Dot today. Do you think that Vashti had a fixed or growth mindset at the beginning? At the end? What were some other messages that we discussed?
What were the most important parts of the book?

During our "Back to School Night" there will be some paper at the front of the classroom and some markers. Invite your parents and family members to come in and draw their dots. Don't forget to ....... (do you remember?)

Looking forward to hearing the different group names, cheers and handshakes tomorrow.
