Math
Today we talked about decimal hundredths using metre sticks. Because there are 100cm in 1m, each centimetre represents 1 hundredths of a metre. You should be able to represent a decimal on a place value chart, in standard form, in expanded form (numbers and words), words (how it is read), on a number line and using hundredth blocks (hundred flat).

Grade 4 please practice decimals as well. We will visit them later on in your textbook.
Grade 4 more practice using Skills Bank. Please make sure you correct your mistakes as soon as you come into the class in the morning. Not too many errors with page 1 of Skills Bank, but many errors counting money.
Literacy
About half the class has completed a first draft of a paragraph about their kindergarten buddy. Just listing the items on your interview sheet is not very interesting or personal. If you want to find out more about your buddy, then just ask him or her!
Today we began our "asking questions" reading strategy. Asking and answering questions while you read helps you understand what you read by keeping you engaged. The first type of questions are GREEN QUESTIONS. The answer to these questions are ONE THE PAGE. If you can't ask and answer simple green questions, then you don't understand the text. Green questions usually start with who, what, where, when or how.
Religion
What event did we read about today in the Acts of the Apostles? Watch the video for a summary. Make sure you answer your green questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES.

Science
Minerals were discussed today. Minerals are different than rocks because they are made of the same element e.g. gold, silver, or a combination of elements that is the same throughout e.g. salt is made of sodium and chloride.
All the elements on earth are listed on the periodic table:
What are the characteristics of minerals we use to identify them? Please re-read page 15 in your text book carefully and complete the handout.
We use Mohs Scale to characterize the hardness of a mineral.
If you have a steel nail, penny and a piece of sandpaper, please bring them tomorrow.
Watch the video to see how we test minerals.

Rock collections are due tomorrow. Please make sure you include your chart with the locations and description of locations.
