Math
Everyone seemed to understand regrouping and expressing numbers different ways. Remember, to check your work, add the individual place values.

Grade 4: How many different ways can you express 9053 using base-ten blocks?

  • Use the least number of blocks
  • Use only ones blocks
  • Use hundreds and ones blocks only
  • Use tens and ones blocks only
Grade 5 :  How many different ways can you express 47 892 using base-ten blocks?
  • Use the least number of blocks
  • Use thousands, hundreds and ones blocks
  • Use hundreds and ones blocks
  • Use ten-thousands, tens and ones blocks
Using a place value chart is very helpful:

/   10 000         /         1000       /          100       /       10    /        1_____/

Literacy
Today we completed a few more diagnostics tests. We had a spelling and reading test. These test tell me what you already know and what you need to learn. Don't stress over them! We have two more tests. A fluency test next week and a math operation test that we will do at the end of the month.

Family Life
Our first lesson was about gifts. Tell your parents about the story of Beatriz's Locket. How are you just like the locket?

Cross Country
It was certainly very hot running today. Congratulations to all runners!
