Math
Lots of review and practice of adding and subtracting money. Remember when finding the change, you can use subtraction strategies, adding up on a number line and pencil and paper. Please make sure you understand all different methods. It is very important that homework is completed and notebooks are handed in on time. I cannot help you if I don't know what you can and cannot do.

Tomorrow you will be given more review sheets and one problem to solve with a partner and share with the class.

Grade 5 problems:

Literacy
In literacy we listened to the extra-ordinary story of Luba Tryszynska, the Angel of Bergen-Belsen. Please share with your parent(s) this incredible story. Make sure the traits you choose reflect her character. You should be able to find a lot of proof to support each trait.

Your answer should be organized essay style. In the first paragraph you introduce the three traits. In the second, third and fourth paragraphs you state each trait, proof to support your inference and then explain how the proof shows this trait.

Below is a link that tells a little bit more about the Holocaust:

Social Studies
Today we traveled to the Canadian Shield. What one word could you use to describe the Shield? ROCK!. We met plants, animals, landforms and discovered a few natural resources in the Shield. This large physical region covers about half of Canada. Share with your parent(s) some trees, landforms and wildlife in this region. There were five interesting birds in this region. There are many more. Do you remember their names?

Then there were these birds. What kind of bird are they?

Tomorrow we will begin making our charts summarizing this beautiful area of Canada.

Reminders:

  • Book Fair tomorrow
  • Return Adding and Subtracting Decimals test signed and corrected.
  • Test on adding money and finding change early next week. Please correct all work and ask for extra help if you need it! That is part of the self-regulation learning skill.
