Math
Today we reviewed volume and capacity and learned the relationship between volume and capacity. Volume of a rectangular prism = Length x Width x Height

Because length x width = area, we can also say...

Volume of a rectangular prism = Area x Height

Try these.....

What is the volume of a rectangular prism with an area of 12 square centimetres and a heigh of 3 cm?

What are the possible lengths and widths of a rectangular prism with a volume of 24 cubic centimetres and a height of 3 cm?

Remember the connection between volume and capacity:
1 mL = 1 cm3

You can find the volume of an irregular object by using WATER DISPLACEMENT.

  • Fill a measuring cup or graduated cylinder with some water.
  • Record the capacity
  • Place the object in the water
  • Record the new water level
  • Subtract to get capacity of object.
  • Change to volume units
